Clients of Teniz Capital Investment Banking JSC have become shareholders of Tolqyn Film Fund OEIC Ltd., the first venture fund in Kazakhstan investing in the production of feature films and animation. The fund is registered in the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), managed by Dasco Capital Ltd., and operates exclusively with professional investors.
Chairman of the Management Board of Teniz Capital Investment Banking JSC, Anzor Botashev, noted that “Kazakh film production attracts investors not only through growth prospects and portfolio diversification but also by offering opportunities to develop new creative directions in the country.”
Meanwhile, Dasco Capital CEO, Darmen Sadvakassov, emphasized that “the Kazakh film market continues to grow and demonstrate commercial potential. There is a sustained audience interest in national films, which are becoming increasingly high-quality, unique, and competitive both domestically and internationally.”
“We welcome the entry of new professional investors into our Fund. This once again confirms their strong interest in film production as a promising business,” said Tolqyn Film Fund CEO and renowned producer, Yernar Kurmashev.
The selection of film projects for investment is carried out through three key stages: submission of applications and shortlisting by the professional team, review by the independent Advisory Board, and final decisions by the Fund’s Investment Committee. As a result of open pitching and direct negotiations with creative teams, the Fund has received more than 90 applications from 11 countries, including the United States, China, France, Germany, Korea, and CIS countries.
Tolqyn Film Fund’s first investment was the project Dastur 2, set to be released nationwide this year. Box office revenues for the first installment of the highly publicized Kazakh horror reached approximately KZT 2 billion, including international earnings. The sequel is directed by Alisher Utev, who has created a series of successful films and TV series. Distribution will be handled by Ascar Cinema (Meloman Entertainment), a leading film distributor in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and the South Caucasus.
